People love to misunderstand…

The last few days the gaming community has been mourning the passing of Nintendo President, Satoru Iwata. There have been tweets, vlogs, and various media floating across the Internets; mainly wonderfully done art. Yesterday while doing a little surfing on my phone I found an image on Facebook (posted by a nerdy company that shall not be named) that pulled at my heart strings and shared it on Twitter. I thought nothing of it as I went to run errands, return phone calls and it just so happened that a very prominent YouTube celebrity quoted it. Also, please note that I’m some random 6’3″ black chick, with an afro, a sassy attitude and a love for giraffes. A mere dew drop in the scheme of Internet celebrityhood and most of my followers are usually privy to pictures of me doing my hair, bad OKC messages and terrible memes.

Regardless, the world exploded and we all died.

Not really, but from the response I received from someone who traced the tweet back to me? You would have thought the Four Horsemen sounded the horn fuckin’ judgement. I was accused of using the un-credited image as retweet and favstar fodder, told that I should have reverse Google image searched and the best a tweet saying something to the effect of, “I BET YOU WON’T TAKE THAT DOWN. I BET YOU WON’T!” while basically doing the Internet version of the Beat It dance while pulling out a butterfly knife.

Really? It’s like that, though?

I get it. I’m not a dummy. People are sensitive about their shit and want credit where credit is due. While you’re more than welcome to be diligent and politely ask me to remove or credit said image, you don’t wave your red cape in front of my face while doing so because that’s when I stop listening. I’m very much aware that artists get exploited and stolen from. Hell, I played college sports for four years, I got exploited for millions of dollars so people could sit in uncomfortable seats to watch me throw a ball through a hoop. Bruh, I get it.

Regardless, here is the link to the artist’s tumblr. Her image was beautiful, heartfelt and wonderful.

Now the image has since been deleted from my timeline and other folks spoke their piece in regards to the matter. I in no way threatened anyone’s job or threatened to affect their career. Will I buy their products? No. Did I delete and/or block them? Nope. Did I get salty about removing the image? No. Did I get salty when someone is clearly and blatantly wrong in how they handled the situation. Hell-to-the-yes. Would I act that way again? Hell-to-the-yes. I’m a pretty laid back and tolerant human but with that red cape in my face?

byeors

*If I get in trouble for using Will Smith’s Fresh Prince image, please do me a solid and have him come to my front door rather than contact me via social media. He should preferably be in character from either iRobot or I Am Legend because he was pretty sexy in those movies.
